
GED Testing Requirements
In order to take the GED exam, there are certain criteria you must first meet.
You may take the GED exam if you:
- are 17 years of age or older
- are not a high school graduate or GED graduate
- have maintained residence in the State of Illinois for thirty days
Note: If an individual is of school age and has been enrolled in a public, private, or a home school setting in the last twelve months, they must present a withdrawal letter from the last school they attended before being allowed to sign up for the GED exam.
Also note:
- The Constitution test must be taken and passed before you can receive your GED certificate.
- To register for the GED exam, you must show an accepted form of Illinois photo ID, as well as know your Social Security number.
- The fee to register for the exam is $50, which is paid on the day you sign up to take the test.
For the purpose of compliance with Section 511 of Public Law 101-166 (the Stevens Amendment), approximately 16% federal funds, or $82,956 were used in FY11 in support of this program.
